Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is located between St Lucia, 24 miles to the north, and Grenada, 75 miles to the south. Barbados is 100 miles to the east. The island of Saint Vincent is situated at 13°15’ N Latitude and 60°56’ W Longitude and is 18 miles long and 11 miles wide.

Average temperature ranges from 24°C/75°F to 30°C/87°F. There are two (2) main seasons: A dry season January to April and a rainy season from July to October. Average annual rainfall is 80” on the coast and 150” inland.

The Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD$), the local currency, is pegged to the US Dollar. The banks give XCD$2.67 for US$1 cash. Shops and restaurants exchange US$1 at approximately XCD$2.60

There is an 11% VAT on rooms. All other charges related to accommodation will reflect a 16% VAT. Individual income tax is exempted for incomes less than $20,000 and taxed progressively up to 30%. Corporate taxes are also 30%, tax holidays from 10 – 15 years are given on a case-by-case bases.

On October 27, 1979, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines gained its independence from Great Britain. It has a democratically elected government and Prime Minister and is a member of Commonwealth. The current Prime Minister is The Honorable Dr. Ralph Gonsalves. The Governor-General, Her Excellency Dame Susan Dougan GCMG, is appointed by and represents Her Majesty the Queen.
